We have been hearing a lot about bed bug infestations. They are finding them in places other than hotels; they have shown up in many retail stores and brought back to your home on the new piece of clothing, or in your suitcase from traveling. The following 2 sites will help you identify Bed Bugs, and help you select a safe, EPA approved pesticide to help rid the home of bed bugs. Reducing clutter, covering mattresses, vacuuming etc. will also help to prevent them from making your home theirs.

That one can of oil can contaminate 2 million gallons of drinking water! Please recycle your used oil: Take your used oil, antifreeze, and other household chemical waste to a service station or recycling center. Go to www.swalco.org to find out where a drop off location is, or when they will be having a local mobile facility drop off day near your home! They also have information of recycling used gym shoes!

5 Natural Pest Repellents

Here are a few natural , safer alternatives to commercial pesticides:

Ants: Sprinkle cinnamon, bay leaves, cayenne pepper or baby powder in problem areas and along the baseboards and windowsills.

Roaches: Sprinkle equal parts of baking soda and confectioners’ sugar in problem areas.

Mice: Place cotton dipped in peppermint oil near problem areas. Used kitty litter is another repellent.

Mosquitoes: Mix 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water placed on your deck or balcony or dab lavender oil on your wrists and elbows.

Flies: Small sachets of crushed mint placed around thehome will discourage flies. So will a potted basil plant.

Garage Door Safety Maintenance

Test the doors opener’s safety reversal feature by placing an object flat on the ground in the center of the garage door. Push the control button and watch to see if it reverses upon contact.
Clean the garage door annuallly and spray silicone to lubricate hinges and rollers.
Inspect all of the hardware (including springs, cables, and pulleys) for signs of wear
Adjust off-balance doors and tighten all nuts and bolts
